PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a flat display device by which a uniform light emitting state can be attained. SOLUTION: The method of driving the flat display device is provided, comprising: a cathode panel equipped with a first electrode (a scanning electrode) and a second electrode (a data electrode); and an anode panel and further is equipped with a spacer extending in parallel with the first electrode. When the flat display device is in a non-display state, a spacer-adjoining electron emission region is driven for non-display and a normalized first current value I<SB>Nor_near</SB>is calculated from a first current value I<SB>near</SB>, and a spacer non-adjoining electron emission region is driven for non-display and a normalized second current value I<SB>Nor_far</SB>is calculated from a second current value I<SB>far</SB>, and when the flat display device is in real display state, on the basis of the normalized first current value I<SB>Nor_near</SB>and the normalized second current value I<SB>Nor_far</SB>, a driving condition of the electron emission region is set so that electron emission states in the spacer-adjoining electron emission region and the spacer non-adjoining electron emission region may be approximately the same.
