A hand tool for selected tool bits has a shaft (10) with a thrust coupling (37) near to the handle and with a coupling (11) for the tool bits at the other end. The bits are fitted and released by pushing back an axial sliding sleeve (20) against spring pressure. The tool has a swivel mounted handle and includes a permanent magnet to hold the tool bits when the coupling sleeve is slid back.
