A method for securing a bulkhead fitting, e.g. hose connections in automobile assembly, has the plastic fitting (2) pushed into the bulkhead (4) hole (5), up to a flange (8). The inner end of the fitting is provided with ratchet grips (12) and a retaining ring linked to the fitting by break tags. The fitting is secured by pushing the retaining ring between the ratchet grips and the rear of the bulkhead.
