PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector such as a displacement meter which is user-friendly, inexpensive, and small in size. SOLUTION: A seven-segment LED 42 indicates a measurement value or the like of an object. A bar indicator 43 includes a plurality of bars (segments) 43a composed of light emitting diodes (LEDs) indicating the entrance degree showing which position the measurement value enters within the tolerance range, an upper limit value indicator 43b, and a lower limit value indicator 43c. A certain degree of resolution implicitly desired by a user can be predicted from the upper limit value and the lower limit value of the tolerance range set by the user. Accordingly, the resolution of each bar 43a is defined by (upper limit value-lower limit value)/the number, wherein the number is that of bars 43a existing between the upper limit value indicator 43b and the lower limit value indicator 43c.
