1,114,485. Bus bars. A. SCARPETTA. 26 Nov., 1965 [26 Nov., 1964], No. 50466/65. Heading H1A. [Also in Division H2] A bus bar assembly consists of a plurality of bars joined end to end, each bar comprising a hollow self-supporting insulating sheath 1a within which is provided a pair of currentcarrying metal plates 8 disposed on opposite inner surfaces of the sheathing which is perforated to allow the entry of the contact blades of socket outlet adapters, Fig. 4 (not shown). The sheathings and the hollows therein may be of rectangular cross-section and a number of sheathings may be interconnected transversely by integrally formed bridge pieces 7. To suspend the assembly, straps (14), Fig. 6 (not shown), engage the bars and are secured to them by bolts (15) which have insulated middle portions. Adjacent bars are joined by inserting the ends to be connected in a sleeve (16), Fig. 8 (not shown) fitted with screw-adjusted wedges (17) which deform the bars to clamp the metal plates on to a central junction plate (19) which extends into both bars. Earth conductors 25 and 26, held in non-magnetic supports 27, may be fitted on to the bridge portions. The metal plates 8 may be modified to have a square bracket-shaped section by extending them a little way along an adjacent inner surface of the sheathing, Fig. 10 (not shown). Alternatively they may be C-shaped, Figs. 11, 12 (not shown), and disposed within circular sheathing, the bars being clamped by a circumferential ring to a locking plate. |
