PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nitrate type, nitrite type or hydroxide type hydrocalumite having a sharp particle size distribution and excellent chlorine capturing capacity and constructing a useful composition not only in an additive to a cement material but also even in a coating material field such as a coating material and an adhesive and to provide the chlorine ion capturing reagent and a heavy metal-containing ion capturing material using the hydrocalumite as an active omponent. SOLUTION: The hydrocalumite is composed of the structure expressed by the general formula (1) (wherein, X is at least one kind of an anion selected from OH<SP>-</SP>, NO<SB>3</SB><SP>-</SP>and NO<SB>2</SB><SP>-</SP>and n≤20), and an average particle diameter by a laser light scattering method is≥1μm and less than 7μm and the content of particles having particle size of 100μm or larger is less than 3 wt.%.
