The method involves controlling components e.g. temperature sensor, and/or functions for operating a household appliance functionality using electronic control switches. The switches are designed and controlled to examine the malfunctioning of the components or a part of the components, during starting of the household appliance functionality. The examination is carried out repeatedly at given time intervals. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a switch for a household appliance such as high-level built-in cooking device (2) a household appliance such as a high-level built-in cooking device with a cooking space and a heating body.
