<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a higher-definition image. <P>SOLUTION: A prediction tap blocking circuit 111 extracts a prediction tap from image data. An ADRC blocking circuit 112 extracts a class tap from the image data, and an ADRC processing circuit 113 applies ADRC processing to the class tap to generate an ADRC code. A correlation detection blocking circuit 114 generates simple image data equivalent to three-plate CCD output on the basis of the image data. A correlation detecting circuit 115 generates a correlation code indicating the degree of correlation among colors on the basis of the simple image data equivalent to the three-plate CCD output. A classifying circuit 116 classifies target pixels on the basis of the ADRC code and the correlation code. An adaptive processing circuit 117 applies prediction operation to the pixel value of a target pixel on the basis of a tap coefficient corresponding to the class of the target pixel and the prediction tap.
