PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately calculate estimated torque of an internal combustion engine irrespective of the load range of the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An ECU executes a program including a step S100 for detecting intake air quantity QA and ignition timing IT, a step S200 for calculating estimated engine torque from QA and IT, a step S300 for detecting engine rotation speed NE and turbine rotation speed NT, a step S400 for calculating speed ratio E of a torque converter, a step S500 for calculating torque capacity C from the speed ratio, a step S600 for calculating reference torque TP(0) from the torque capacity, a step S700 for correcting the reference torque TP(0) to TP based on a map, a step S900 for establishing TE as the estimated engine torque when TP is greater than TE (Yes in S800), and a step S1000 for establishing TP as the estimated engine torque when TP is not greater than TE (No in S800).
