PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the layout area of the peripheral circuit of a pixel array part is increased when protection diodes as many as wires and test switches as many as rows or columns are mounted on a panel. SOLUTION: Regarding the panel type display apparatus having both protecting/testing functions to take measures against electrostatic breakage and to test the image display, for example, an organic EL display apparatus, MOS transistors 51n, 53n, 55n and 57n constituting a protection & test switch circuit 21A function as the protection diodes, and also, MOS transistors 52n, 54n, 56n and 58n functioning as the protection diodes after the apparatus is manufactured are used also as test switches for testing the image display at the inspection time in the manufacturing process.
