PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an HMD for clearly observing the surrounding while viewing content image, regarding the shield type HMD which blocks a view to the surrounding when putting on. SOLUTION: Regarding the shield type video display apparatus mounted on user's head or face, preventing the user from seeing the surrounding, the apparatus includes an imaging means for photographing the optical image of the surrounding, an image input means for inputting the image from the outside of the video display apparatus, a display means for displaying the image, and an image mixing means for mixing the image photographed by the imaging means and the image captured by the image input means to be output to the display means.
