A mobile phone unit and a method of controlling stoppage of a vacuum cleaner are provided to automatically sense call during use of the vacuum cleaner to temporarily stop operation of the vacuum cleaner. A mobile phone unit includes a call receiving unit(42), a light emitting unit(44), a sensing unit(19), a signal converting unit(14), a controller(20), a switching unit(31), and a reset unit(27). The call receiving unit generates a bell sound by receiving a call signal. The light emitting unit displays a state of the mobile phone as an optical signal when the call signal rings. The sensing unit senses the optical signal. The signal converting unit converts the optical signal sensed at the sensing unit into a sensing signal. The controller determines the converted sensing signal to input the output thereof to a driving power sustaining unit(28). The switching unit stops a motor by turning off power supplied to the vacuum cleaner through a power output unit(60) when the driving power sustaining unit is operated by outputting the sensing signal. The reset unit turns off the driving power supplied to the switching unit to operate the vacuum cleaner again.
