A vortex amplifier, Fig. 1, (not shown), which minimises the unstable condition created by the boundary layer just attaching to, and then breaking loose from the vortex chamber upon the input control pressure reaching or attaining the value required to achieve cut-off of supply flow, comprises a plurality of superimposed laminae together defining a cylindrical vortex chamber 36, an axially extending inlet, an axially disposed outlet 38, and two control fluid ducts 34 each extending tangentially of the chamber, the lamina defining the chamber base and containing the outlet port 38 being formed with a longitudinal slot 40 the major axis of which is at least equal to the chamber diameter. In use, the presence of slot 40 prevents the boundary layer from attaching itself to the circumferential wall.</p> |
