An electric power steering apparatus (1) comprises a transmission mechanism (19) for transmitting driving force of a steering assisting electric motor (18) to a steering mechanism (100). A driven gear (21) of the transmission mechanism (19) is rotatably supported by first and second bearings (26, 27). One of the first and second bearings (26, 27; 26, 270) includes an inner ring (35; 350) coupled so as to be rotatable together with an output shaft (10) of a steering shaft (3), an outer ring (36; 360) held on a housing (50), and a rolling element (37) interposed between the inner ring (35; 350) and the outer ring (36; 360). One of the inner ring (35; 350) and the outer-ring (36; 360) includes an annular elastic plate (350; 36) giving a preload to the rolling element (37).
