Imidazopyridine derivatives (I) are new. Imidazopyridine derivatives of formula (I) having a molecular weight of at most 600 and their salts are new: [Image] R 1>H, Me or CH 2OH; R 2>Me or Et; R 3>, R 4>H, 1-6C alkyl, 1-6C hydroxyalkyl or halo; R 5>H or halo; X : NH or O; R 7>, R 6>substituents comprising C, H, N, O, S, Se, P or halo; provided that at least one of R 6> and R 7> is not H, 1-6C alkyl, 1-6C hydroxyalkyl or 1-6C alkoxy-1-6C alkyl; Independent claims are included for the following: (a) composition comprising (I) and at least an antimicrobial agent (II) or proton pump inhibitor (III) for simultaneous, separate or sequential use in the prevention or treatment of gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases; (b) preparation of (I); and (c) intermediate compounds of formulae (IV), (V) and (VI). [Image] R 9>H, CH 3 or an ester group; and R x>an ester group. NB The positions of R 4> and R 5> in (I) are different in (V) and (VI). ACTIVITY : Antiinflammatory.
