A dispensing structure (10) is provided for a container (12) which has an opening to the container interior. The struc-ture (10) includes a body for extending around the container opening (14) and a membrane (40) for occluding the container opening (14). A cover (22) is disposed over the membrane (40) and is sealingly engaged with the body to accommodate axial sliding movement from an outer position to an inwardly dis-placed position. The cover (22) defines a dispensing orifice (80) and defines an edge (92) for severing at least part of the mem-brane (40) as the cover (22) is moved from the outer position to the inwardly displaced position. An additive material (100) may be initially stored in the dispensing structure (10) above the membrane (40) and can be combined with the product (16) in the container (12) after the membrane (40) has been severed. A self-sealing, pressure-openable, slit-type valve (345) may be mounted in the cover (22) at the dispensing orifice (80) to control flow through the orifice (80).
