A method for supplying a printing medium in an image forming apparatus is provided to prevent the overload of a pickup roller due to a difference of moving speed of the printing medium, thereby reducing unnecessary power consumption. The first pickup roller is driven to supply a printing medium at the first speed(S10). The printing medium supplied by the first pickup roller is sensed by an optical sensor(S11). A driving roller is driven to move the printing medium passing through the pickup sensor at the second speed(S13). After the printing medium is sensed by the pickup sensor, the driving speed of the pickup roller is reduced to supply the printing medium at the second speed.
