The invention relates to a security barrier apparatus. Some embodiments of t he present invention may be used in conjunction with a previously existing security gate or perimeter and other embodiments may be used as stand-alone security barrier gate systems. The various embodiments of the security barrier apparatus comprise a passive security gate apparatus that is capable of withstanding t he force of an object, such as a vehicle, of up to 1.1 .times. 106 ft-Ib/s wherein the driver of the object is attempting to gain entrance through the security gate apparatus.
