A motor with a brake comprises two electromagnetic brake mechanisms (8a, 8b) installed around a rotating shaft (4). The electromagnetic brake mechanisms (8a, 8b) comprise disk bodies (14a, 14b) rotating integrally with the rotating shaft (4), movable members (13a, 13b) approaching and separating from the disk bodies (14a, 14b), and electromagnets (12a, 12b) having coils (11a, 11b) and moving the movable members (13a, 13b) by generating electromagnetic forces through the energization of the coils (11a, 11b). Currents in the directions reverse to each other for the electromagnets (12a, 12b) flow through the coils (11a, 11b) of the electromagnets (12a, 12b) to drive the electromagnets (12a, 12b). Consequently, the reliability of the motor can be increased by accurately reducing, by a simple means, a magnetic flux leaking into and outside the motor when the currents flow through the coils (11a, 11b) of the electromagnetic brake mechanisms (8a, 8b) without requiring a costly mechanical modification.
|
