Dynamical optical components based on polymer/elastomer or membrane surface modulation may exhibit time constants of magnitude larger than the temporal response required by the end application. The present invention provides a method and devices strongly reducing or completely removing such undesired effects while avoiding complex and expensive countermeasures. This is achieved by introducing temporally varying electrical drive signals applied on groups of interleaved electrodes.
