PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dust collector and a method of removing dust, which can brush away attached dust from a filter body surely. SOLUTION: The dust collector keeps an inside space of a dust removal chamber 1 partitioned into a first chamber 3 and a second chamber 4 by a partition 2 and the filter body 5 supported by the partition 2, the filter body 5 is a cylindrical body with one end opened toward the second chamber 4, and the other end charging into the first chamber 3 to be blocked in, wherein the first chamber is provided with a dust-containing gas introductory part 9 in a peripheral wall of the dust removal chamber 1 the second chamber 4 an after-dust-removal gas discharge part 8, and the inside of the second chamber 4 a nozzle 7 pulse-injecting a dust-brushing-away gas from the outside from the opening of the filter body toward the inside. When a dust-brushing-away gas injection quantity per pulse pulse-injected from the nozzle 7 is Q[m<SP>3</SP>], and a jet orifice radius of the nozzle is R[m], a relationship of the jet orifice radius R of the nozzle with the dust-brushing-away gas injection quantity Q is 1≤Q/R≤3.
