PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver powder, even if particle diameters are small, when being used for photosensitive paste, which can reduce the viscosity of the paste, and further, can make the state of a coating film, sensitivity and line properties satisfactory; and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the silver powder, the silver powder produced by a wet reduction method is subjected to surface smoothing treatment where the respective particles are mechanically collided, and thereafter, the aggregate of silver is removed by classifying. The surface smoothing treatment is performed by feeding the dried silver powder to an apparatus capable of mechanically fluidizing the particles, e.g., a stirring machine such as a cylindrical high speed stirring machine (e.g., a mixer and a mill), and mechanically colliding the respective particles of the silver powder.
