DIGITAL BROADCASTING SYSTEM AND PROCESSING METHOD

A digital broadcast transmitting/receiving system and a data processing method are provided to efficiently transmit and receive traffic information by applying traffic information data as enhanced data. A pre-processing part encodes traffic information data including a traffic information message and forms a traffic information data packet by including predetermined known data in the encoded traffic information data. A multiplexer multiplexes the traffic information data packet and a main data packet. A trellis encoder includes one or more memories, generates initialization data if data outputted from the multiplexer corresponds to the beginning of a consecutive known data sequence in order to initialize the memories, and then trellis-encodes the multiplexed data packets. A transmission part inserts synchronization data into an output of the trellis encoder and then transmits the output after modulation.
