A fine adjustment device for producing small changes in length of a bar, two of which are shown in the drawing both forming part of a cylindrical member 4 and being defined by slots 43 cut in the member 4, the bar is split up over part of its length along its middle plane to provide an internal lens shaped cavity 46 banded by wall halves 44, 45, a bolt 62 being passed through the two wall halves and provided with a nut 66 to compress or release the two wall halves in the direction of the arrows P 6 against the elastic forces of the bar material and thus produce corresponding changes in length of the bar in the direction of the arrow P 4 . In use the upper end plane face LE of the member 4 is set truly horizontal to serve as a support for an angle measuring instrument e.g. a phototheodolite. To this end the cylindrical member 4 is provided with three equally spaced adjustment devices as described above, the member 4 having three feet 41 resting on a ring 2 which is set approximately horizontal by the use of wedges 3. The member 4 is held in plane by bolts, as 54 with spring washers 52 bearing on a stressing ring 51. The nuts 66 of the adjustment devices are provided with gear teeth and are adjusted by means of reduction gearing 67 to bring the plane LE into a horizontal position. |
