Securing communications within a wireless home network, such as a WiFi network, is presently a complex process requiring manual input of encryption keys by a user. Such inputting is subject to human error. Another problem in that this key is also associated with all other devices in the WiFi network, and not unique to the new device attaching to the network. Thus, if the device is stolen or lost, the key may be compromised for the entire network. The present invention provides for a method of deriving encryption keys for securing communications between devices in a home network, such as a WiFi network, from elements in a mobile network, which already have access to shared keys. Further encryption keys are derived from those already generated within the mobile network and made available to the devices in the home network. |
