An LCD and a method for driving the same are provided to offset noise generated due to a swing voltage applied to a common voltage, by applying a voltage, which has a level equal to the swing voltage and a phase contrary to the swing voltage, to a dummy electrode. A thin film transistor substrate includes thin film transistors and pixel electrodes(170) respectively connected to the thin film transistors. A color filter substrate includes color filters(220) and a common electrode(240) corresponding to the pixel electrodes. A liquid crystal material(400) is formed between the thin film transistor substrate and the color filter substrate. A dummy electrode(500) is formed on at least one of the thin film transistor substrate and the color filter substrate. A driver applies a swing voltage to the common electrode, and applies a voltage, which has a level equal to the swing voltage and a phase contrary to the swing voltage, to the dummy electrode.
