A method for measuring a distance using a camera module is provided to easily measure a distance between a desired subject and a user without an increase in volume and cost of a device by using only zoom and focus functions of the camera module. A method for measuring a distance using a camera module includes the steps of testing whether or not a camera is driving(601), testing whether or not image is formed on a CMOS(603), calculating a focus distance and a distance between a lens and the CMOS(607), judging whether or not the focus distance and a distance between a lens and the CMOS is within an error range(609), testing a distance measuring request by a user(610), performing a corresponding function after a predetermined time lapses when the distance measuring request is absent(613), calculating a distance between a subject and the user based on the focus distance(611), and displaying the distance between a subject and the user(615).
