PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a buffer for a sliding door, which can dampen the motion of the sliding door, for example, can prevent the quick collision of the sliding door with a jamb of an entrance at the closing of the sliding door, and can prevent the generation of a loud impact sound. SOLUTION: The buffer for the sliding door 1 is slidably provided to open/close the entrance 2 of the building. A bidirectional rotary damper 6 is attached to an upper end near a door end of the sliding door 1; a lower end of a V-shaped claw member 8 is fixed to a rotating shaft 7 which is horizontally protruded from the center of the damper 6; leading-end claw parts 9a and 9b bent inward are formed at the right and left upper ends, in a front view, of the claw member 8, respectively; and an abutting member 10, which abuts on the claw parts 9a and 9b, is formed on the undersurface of a head 4 in a position near the jamb 5 which abuts on the door end of the sliding door 1 of the entrance 2.
