Optical fiber (1) comprising glass fiber (10) including core (11) and cladding (12); first coating layer (13) of transparent resin with a refractive index lower than that of the cladding (12), superimposed on the circumferential surface of the glass fiber (10); and second coating layer (14) of opaque resin superimposed on the circumferential surface of the first coating layer (13). In first region (W1) along the length thereof, the first coating layer (13) and second coating layer (14) are removed to thereby realize exposure of the smooth circumferential surface of the glass fiber (10). In second region (W2), the second coating layer (14) is removed to thereby realize sheathing of the glass fiber (10) by the first coating layer (13). In third region (W3), the first coating layer (13) and second coating layer (14) sheathe the glass fiber (10). In fourth region (W4) included in the second region, the first coating layer (13) is provided with scattering part (13A) capable of light scattering.
