The invention relates to a method for determining a speed signal (8) of an electric machine (1) which is mechanically connected to an internal combustion engine (2). The speed signal (8) is determined by means of an incremental speed sensor (4) and the speed is determined from the time measured when the speed sensor passes over a reference angle (a) of a rotating part, the reference angle being preferably defined by at least two flanks of a gearwheel (5). In order to avoid oscillating torques, the reference angle (a) is modified depending on at least one operating or engine parameter.
