PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing a polyolefin having good quality in good productivity in a homogeneous system in the presence of a catalyst using a transition metal compound as a main catalytic component. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyolefin involves polymerizing one or more kinds selected from ethylene and a 3-30Cα-olefin in a saturated hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of the catalyst containing (A) the catalytic component comprising a compound of a group 4 transition metal in the periodic table, and (B) a catalytic component comprising an organoaluminoxane. The component (B) is obtained by previously subjecting the organoaluminoxane soluble in the saturated hydrocarbon-based solvent to a contact treatment with an organoaluminum compound having 1-10C alkyl group in the saturated hydrocarbon-based solvent.
