PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder apparatus capable of preventing degradation of the clamping force by preventing occurrence of any play attributable to the reaction force generated when clamping a workpiece, and simply performing the assembly process and the maintenance. SOLUTION: The cylinder apparatus comprises a body 14 having an integrally formed flat rectangular parallelepiped shape, a cylinder unit 18 for accommodating a piston 28 which is reciprocatable along cylinder chambers 38, 38a, a toggle link mechanism 60 for converting the linear motion of a piston rod 40 into the rotational motion, and an arm 22 for making rotation by a predetermined angle in accordance with a driving action of the cylinder unit 18, wherein reaction force-receiving plates 106a, 106b for absorbing the reaction force H applied when a workpiece W is clamped are attachably/detachably provided in the body 14.
