PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device that enables a photographer to obtain a more natural and high-image-quality photographed video image by executing proper detail addition corresponding to each state of various photographing scenes by automatic detail-addition adjustment, while conventional detail addition adjustment is arbitrarily executed by the photographer by menu setting or the like of the image pickup device corresponding to a photographing state. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is composed of an optical system 1 for forming an optical image, an image pickup element 2 for generating a video signal, while executing the photoelectric conversion of the optical image obtained by the optical system 1; a detail addition circuit 6 for correcting a contour of the video signal while executing the detail addition to the video signal obtained by the image pickup element 2; and a control circuit 8 for controlling so as to vary a boost frequency and an addition amount of a detail in the detail addition circuit 6 corresponding to a subject distance and a focal distance on the basis of the subject distance setting information and focal distance setting information of the optical system 1.
