A pressure vessel closure plug 20 is held in position by pins 30, 31 received in opposing radial holes 12, 22; 13, 23 in the vessel and plug walls, each pin in the closed position having an annular groove 36, 37 spanning a part of the junction between the vessel and plug walls. The holes 12, 22; 13, 23 and the pins 30, 31 are tapered, and axial slots 38, 39, which extend along part of the pins, are engaged by bars 18, 19, bolted to the vessel 10, which align the pins and provide positive stops for the pins in the open and closed positions. The pins 30, 31 and the plug 20 are hydraulically operated through rods 40, 41, 42.</p> |
