PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original cover plate opening/closing device capable of automatically adjusting the height of an original cover plate. SOLUTION: The original cover plate opening/closing device is equipped with an attaching member 2 attached to the equipment body 11 of office equipment 10; a support member 3 turnably supported by the attaching member 2 through a shaft; a lift member 4 superimposed on the support member 3 and also turnably supported at the free end of the support member 3 through a shaft, and attached to the original cover plate 12; and an elastic means 5 provided between the attaching member 2 and the supporting member 3, rotating and energizing the original cover plate 12 in the opening direction and also energizing the lift member 4 in a direction, where the lift member 4 is superimposed on the supporting member 3. The original cover plate opening/closing device is provided with an energization release means 7 for releasing the energizing of the lift member 4 by the elastic means 5, immediately before or when the original cover plate 12 is turned in a closing direction to go into a closed state, and bringing the original cover plate 12 into contact with the upper surface of the equipment body 11 in such a state where the energizing force by the elastic means 5 does not act, whereby the problem is solved.
