The method involves forming an impression cylinder blank (1) from a multiple-piece component that is made of multiple individual parts e.g. bale (2) and spindle (4). The individual parts are firmly affixed together along an axial length (L1) of the impression cylinder blank. The individual parts are trimmed from a massive or tubular bar stock with a fixed, standard length. The individual parts are formed with different material properties, where the individual parts are combined by an electron beam welding process.
