An apparatus and a method for controlling torque of a compressor are provided to simply set up a limit value according to a temperature of external air according to a result of comparing a temperature of external air with a reference temperature, thereby preventing an increase in the manufacturing cost. An external air temperature sensor(23) detects a temperature of external air. A control unit(18) limits a change amount of a motor driving voltage applied to a compressor motor according to the temperature of external air detected through the external air temperature sensor. If the temperature of external air is higher than a reference temperature, the control unit sets up a first limit value. If temperature of external air is not higher than a reference temperature, the control unit sets up a second limit value smaller than the first limit value.
