<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell capable of inhibiting falling of a power generation efficiency of the fuel cell caused by a clearance formed around porous material in forming a gas flow passage by using porous material. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell includes an electrolyte layer, a catalytic electrode formed on the electrolyte layer, a gas separator arranged to have a predetermined distance from the catalytic electrode so as to form a space to the catalytic electrode, and a sealer 49 provided at an outer periphery of the electrolyte layer and the catalytic layer contacted with the gas separator, and assuring gas sealability at the clearance. The fuel cell also includes gas flow passage formation portions 43 and 44 arranged within the clearance, abutting to the catalytic electrode and the gas separator, and made of conductive porous material forming a clearance to a sealer. Furthermore, the fuel cell includes a water absorbent swelling portion 82 which is arranged at least at a part of the clearance formed between the gas flow passage formation portions and the sealing portion, and increases in volume by absorbing water. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
