PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device having a highly shape-controlled inorganic alignment layer. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device of this invention comprises a liquid crystal layer held between a pair of substrates, and an inorganic alignment layer formed on a surface abutting on the liquid crystal layer of at least one of the substrates, and is characterized in that the inorganic alignment layer 86 of a TFT array substrate 80 is formed on an aligned ground film consisting of an aggregate of particulates 85a.
