PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To unify the aspect ratio of moving pictures recorded on a predetermined recording medium. SOLUTION: At step S21, a decision is made whether an aspect ratio has been set for a DVD+RW disc or not, and if it has been set, each section of a digital video camera is set to correspond with the aspect ratio set for the DVD+RW disc. If it has not been set, selection of an aspect ratio is urged, a selected aspect ratio is set for the DVD+RW disc, and each section of the digital video camera is set to correspond with that aspect ratio. Subsequently, the operation for altering the aspect ratio of a DVD+RW disc attached currently is inhibited.
