PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a vinyl ether compound under mild conditions by using isomerization. SOLUTION: An allyl ether compound represented by formula (1) (wherein R is an organic group; and R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, and R<SP>4</SP>are each independently a hydrogen atom or an organic group) is isomerized in the presence of a base and a compound of a group VIII element of the periodic table, thus producing a vinyl ether compound having a double bond at the adjacent position of oxygen.
