<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing illuminant apparatus using a surface emission light source that can change the polarization of an exit light from the surface emission light source effectively without changing the etendue of a system and the etendue of a light source. <P>SOLUTION: A polarizing illuminant apparatus includes: a surface emission light source 1 that emits a monochromic and indefinitely polarized light; a tabular photonic crystal 2 arranged on a light emitting surface 1a of the surface emission light source 1 to receive the light emitted from the light emitting surface 1a; a light pipe and a collimator 6 that receives the light emitted from the surface emission light source 1 and transmitted through the photonic crystal 2; a quarter wave plate 3 that receives the light transmitted through the collimator 6; and a reflective polarization plate 4 arranged in substantially-parallel with the photonic crystal 2 to receive the light transmitted through the quarter wave plate 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
