PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bit map processing system for preventing any command time-out from occurring even in a session whose copy capacity is large in a dual storage device for storing original and copy data. SOLUTION: A copy origin case 1 is provided with a bit map acquisition/bit map merging means for acquiring a necessary bit map 3 from a copy destination case 2 based on bit map management information 4 acquired by rounding a bit map showing the existence of written data in the copy case 2, and for merging the bit map in the corresponding bit map of the copy origin case 1. The copy destination case 2 is provided with a bit map management information updating means for updating bit map management information showing that data have been written in the case of suspension. In the case of resumption, the copy origin case 1 requests the transfer of the bit map management information from the copy destination case 2, and the copy destination case 2 transmits the bit map management information.
