PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus in which the linear velocity and material of a lubricant applying brush are taken into consideration so that neither increase of torque nor generation of a jitter image is ensured, a lubricant can be evenly applied on a photoreceptor, and occurrence of a mark of the brush and filming is prevented. SOLUTION: As shown in Fig.2, a process cartridge is configured such that the linear velocity of a lubricant applying brush roller 17a of a cleaning device 17 (in a contact position with a photoreceptor drum 1) is set slightly higher than that of the photoreceptor drum 1 as an image bearing member, whereby increase of torque and generation of a jitter image are avoided, it is made possible to evenly apply a lubricant 17b on the photoreceptor drum 1, and occurrence of a mark of the brush and filming is prevented. The amount of the lubricant applied on the photoreceptor drum 1 can be reduced as compared with the case where the linear velocity of the lubricant applying brush roller 17a is made identical with that of the photoreceptor drum 1.
