The turbine has a turbine shaft (12), and an internal housing (16) that surrounds the turbine shaft. The turbine shaft has a thrust compensation piston (30) for partial compensation of a blade thrust exerted on the turbine shaft. A guiding channel (34) for guiding a cooling medium (42) runs in a region within the internal housing in a longitudinal direction of the turbine shaft. The turbine shaft has a ventilator structure (32) in a region of the piston for driving the cooling medium, where the ventilator structure is drivable by rotation of the turbine shaft. An independent claim is also included for a turbine shaft for a turbine of a thermal power plant, comprising a thrust compensation piston.
