A method and an apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display are provided to increase pulse width of a gate-on voltage supplied to a gate line by adjusting pulse width of an output enable signal supplied to a gate driver. An apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display includes an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel(20), a data driver(16), a power supply(12), a timing controller(10), and a multiplexer(14). A gate driver(18) for driving a gate line of an image display unit is embedded in the LCD panel. The data driver drives a data line of the image display unit. The power supply supplies power to respective circuit blocks. The timing controller controls the gate driver and the data driver. The multiplexer adjusts pulse width of an output enable signal from the timing controller and supplies the result to the gate driver.
