<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inform a user of functions equipped in a printer, by a good timing. <P>SOLUTION: The printer which carries out printing by reading image data from a portable recording medium is equipped with a means which stores introduction information for introducing the printing function, a means which stores information related to a use history of the printing function, a selecting means which selects the printing function introduced by using the information related to the use history of the printing function, and a display means which displays during execution of printing the introduction information of the printing function selected by the selecting means.
