PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for prescribing an index for feeling of brightness in an illuminated space, capable of easily obtaining the index for the feeling of brightness in the illuminated space, having a small number of errors due to individual subjectivity, reducing working hours, and easily combining illuminators for realizing the illumination environment of the feeling of brightness to the applications of a room, even in a room composed mainly of indirect illumination and wall face illumination by a plurality of illuminators for a single room, and to provide an indoor illumination designing method, using the method for prescribing an index for feeling of brightness. SOLUTION: An index F for feeling of brightness is prescribed as a function of geometrical average luminance Ba, based on the correlation between color-mode boundary luminance A, and geometric average luminance Ba, excluding the light source luminance of a specific region in the illuminated space in the visual field of an observer, and the correlation between a brightness sensation an index F for indicating the feeling of brightness in the illuminated space, and the color-mode boundary luminance A.
