PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feed and separation unit capable of suppressing generation of abnormal noise when conveying out paper sheets. SOLUTION: In a paper feed cassette 21, a shaft part 61 having an oval section is provided on a cassette body 6 capable of stacking and housing paper sheets, and a bearing part 83 to be engaged with the shaft part 61 of the cassette body 6 inserted from a cutout part 85 is provided on a roller holder 8 for holding a retard roller 7 for conveying out the paper sheets one by one. A hook part 87 overhanging from the downstream side to the upstream side in the paper sheet conveying-out direction is provided on the bearing part 83, and when the paper sheets are not conveyed out, the hook part 87 is engaged with the shaft part 61, and the roller holder 8 is supported by the cassette body 6.
