APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR RECOGNIZING VIDEO SIGNAL

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for recognizing a video signal are provided to automatically recognize an output mode of a set-top box, thereby improving convenience of a user. CONSTITUTION: A synchronizing signal judging part judges existence of horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals in an input video signal(20). The synchronizing signal judging part judges as an RGBHV mode meaning output of color signals and horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals from a first set-top box if the horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals exist(21-22). The synchronizing signal judging part judges as a YPbPr mode meaning output of brightness signals including color difference signals, color signals, and horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals from a second set-top box if the horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals do not exist(23). The input video signal is processed according to the judged mode and the processed video signal is displayed(24).
